The Scotland based company, Gizmo Packaging, has recently unveiled its latest invention to the public: a bottle cap closure that allows the consumer to inject the liquid in the bottle with active ingredients, flavors, or vitamins. You simply twist the cap, and you can add a variety of flavors to your bottled water.
As our on-the-go lifestyles become increasingly busier, new packaging innovations have helped us maintain that speed. From microwave popcorn to squeezable tube yogurt to single servings of just about anything, each packaging advance shaves seconds (and maybe minutes) off our daily activities to allow us to spend a little more time with friends and family.
I too have jumped on the bandwagon of adding flavor packets to my bottled water, but am I really so busy that I can’t tear open a foil packet and pour the powder into the bottle? Plus, there’s always the chance that my attention deficit disorder kicks in and I twist all the caps at once in an entire case of water just to see the magical flavor injection take place. Also, how much extra would I be willing to pay for those few seconds of excitement?
I’m sure once this gadget makes it to the U.S. I will give it a whirl. Maybe this will be a new craze that catches on like some of the other great packaging innovations, and we’ll never have a reason to drink plain water again!

This looks like it would be amazingly fun, and it has a tremendous amount of potential for people like me who spend a lot of time on the road and need their drinks to stay fresh.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm afraid I skimmed through this blog a bit the first time around. I love your comment on how much extra you would be willing to pay for a few moments of excitement. This is true-this looks like something I would pick up, then spend hours filling and playing with myself if I had the technology. I think the innovation and novelty alone will be enough to make these a seller on the open market.
ReplyDeleteI think this looks like too much fun. And I have to wonder what would happen if they started using it for decorative purposes as well. Remember those oil and water mixes we used to make when we were little? If you could have some cool glittery stuff come shooting out...
ReplyDeleteI recently did a piece on this for my blog as well, just because it was cool! I love the fact that you could use this for just about anything. Not being a farmer I'm not all that knowledgeable about the pesticide applications and such that they're talking about, but I think this will be a neat addition to the spa market-especially if they can find a way to make the addition of the extra ingredients optional. Two choices in one package!

ReplyDeleteI've been looking around, but haven't seen the Gizmo closure on the store shelves yet. Is this a UK only thing? And when can we expect to see it in the States?
ReplyDeleteI think they're trying to spread out from the UK-the company that makes it is based in Scotland, but they've got manufacturing and distribution partners just about everywhere else.
ReplyDeleteI saw that YouTube video-I can't remember if that's the one I was thinking of or not (I stumbled onto an article about this on the web and decided to do some digging) but one of them had an example where they were using milk rather than water, and it was soooo cool.
